Deacon George Clark 7 Cleveland was a poor boy when he went West, determined to establish himself. In July, 1843, he settled near Rockford, and commenced a new farm on land now a part of his beautiful homestead. For many years he diligently followed his business of farmer and stock raiser, and has been abundantly successful. Removed into Rockford, Apr.,. 1886, where he still resides (1897), and has retired on an ample competency. His son, Edward Warren* Cleveland, is managing his farm. Mr. George Clark' Cleveland- united with the First Congregational Church, Rockford, 1851, joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rockford by letter, 1858, was elected to the office of Deacon, 1870, succeeded to the Eldership, 1885, and has long and acceptably filled both offices, and is senior member of the Board of Elders in term of service ; is highly esteemed in the community.
