  • THIS ancient family has long flourifhed in this county : they are denominated from Henewood, in the parifh of Poftling in Kent, where we find, William de Honywood, (anciently fpelt Henewood) who left iffue three fons ; the two youngeft died iffuelefs ; Thomas, the eldeft fon, as appears by deed without date, left Edwin de Honywood, who, by Mabilia, daughter and heir of Nicholas de Handlo, left iffue, Pagan de Honywood.
  • Edwin, before-mentioned, called by Philpot, Edmund de Honywood, 'who, in the reign of Henry III. is remembered in the front and van of thofe in the ledger-book of Horton-priory, who were munificent benefactors to that convent, and is fet down there to have been of Poftling, and as this place (Poftling) was then, fo it is ftill, through all that flux and decurfion of time which hath fince elapfed, wound up in that revenue which acknowledges the feignorie and jurifdiction of this ancient name and family.'

His fon, 'William de Honywood, married Catherine, daughter and heir of Cafeborne, of Cafeborne, and had iffue', Allan, father of Thomas, who was elected one of the Barons for Hythe in Kent, 31 Hen. VI. and died temp. Edw. IV. By Mary, daughter of William Lovelace, he was father of John, who married two wives, firft, Agnes, daughter and heir of Henry Martin, Efq; and left iffue, John Honywood Efq; of whom hereafter : his fecond wife was a daughter of Barnes, of Wye in Kent, by whom he had iffue, Robert, of Charing in Kent, and Marks-hall in Effex, who married Mary, daughter and coheir of Robert Waters, of Lenham in Kent, Efq; Robert Honywood, of Charing and Marks-hall, Efq; fon and heir, married two wives, firft, Dorothy, daughter of John Crooke, LL.D. by whom he had Sir Robert Honywood, of Charing, Knt. who, by the daughter of Sir Martin Barnham, of Hollingborn in Kent, Knt. had iffue, Sir Robert Honywood, Knt. who, by Frances, daughter of Henry Fane, Efq; was grandfather to the late Robert Honywood, of Marks-hall, Efq; knight of the (hire for Effex, temp. Geo. I. and to Philip Honywood, Efq; lieutenant-general of his Majefty's forces, and colonel of a regiment of dragoons. .....
