Two Catherine Higgies died 1894, one in Dunedin (Dunedin Public Library 2225), the other in Tokomariro (2309)
House burned down 4th June 1867 at midday. House rebuilt by son James Junior. A Mr Hanning remembered her:
"A small woman, wiry and tough, walking to the store and back regularly with a 'Maori kit' in each hand." (Old time sugar bag with bound top and cloth handles added).
She arrived in Dunedin with most of her and James' children, including baby Andrew, on the 'Crimea' which had sailed from London in 1863.
Like her husband, Catherine was buried at the Taieri Beach Cemetery, and a second Higgie headstone at the cemetery may be hers.
In 1851 lived next to a Mary Ann Smith age 24 born Ireland who had neice Jessie/Janet Higgie.
