Cecilia Isabella Stewart

Cecilia Stewart (nee Anderson) was born in Newcastle, England, in 1863. Her parents were Thomas Goldsborough and Cecilia Anderson (nee Hutchinson) who married in 1859. Cecilia married George Vesey Stewart (Jnr) in St Peter's Anglican Church in Katikati on 5 March 1890. They had two children together before George Vesey Stewart (Jnr) drowned off the Katikati Heads on 23 July 1892 (reg. 1892/3433). He was aged 31. Drowned along with him were Cecilia's brother Francis (Frank) Losh Anderson and Robert Irwin. George's body was the only one recovered. He was buried in the Katikati Cemetery. Cecilia was pregnant when George drowned. The couples' third daughter was born at Katikati on 24 February 1893. Cecilia and the three girls eventually moved to Auckland where Cecila taught music to provide for her family. She died there in 1947 and was buried in Purewa Cemetery.
