[ Deceased ] Birth Name: Roberts Date of birth: 24-Jun-1921 Date of death: 20-Jul-2011 Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa Qualifications: B Sc Nationality: South African :: Update Background Cecily Hunter, born on 24th June, 1921, was the oldest child of Daniel and Isobel Roberts and grew up on Baddaford, the family citrus farm just outside Fort Beaufort, South Africa. She went to boarding school at Collegiate in Port Elizabeth and then to Rhodes University where she graduated with a BSc. During the Second World War, Cecily served in the signals corps until her father had a heart attack and she was called home to run the farm.
After the war, her brothers returned to run Baddaford and she moved to Port Elizabeth where she was courted by Jock Hunter, whom she had met at a dance at the Hogsback. They married in 1947 and had three daughters.
As well as being a dedicated mother, Cecily was actively involved in the Black Sash and the Presbyterian Church and was also chair of the Collegiate Old Girls Association for many years.
Cecily Hunter died on 20th July, 2011, soon after celebrating her 90th birthday.
