Biography

Cesaire Joseph Prudhomme was born on September 27, 1817, in Louisiana, United States, and was baptized on October 12, 1818, there. His parents were Jean-Baptiste Prudhomme and Maria Josefa Ybarbo.

Cesaire married Mary Louise Prudehomme (LaFite) on April 21, 1838 in De Soto Parish, LA, United States. Together they had the following children:

• Joseph Alexis Prudhomme;
• John Bishop Prudhomme;
• Marie Louise Prudhomme;
• Mary Arsene Rambin.

He died in December 1869 in Natchitoches, Natchitoches, Louisiana, United States, and was buried in Gravel Point, Jefferson Davis, Louisiana, United States.

Oakland Plantation

Oakland Plantation, originally known as the Jean Pierre Emmanuel Prud'homme Plantation, and known as Bermuda, is a historic plantation in unincorporated Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Staying in the family for generations, it is one of the nation's best and most intact examples of a French Creole cotton plantation complex It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2001 and is now owned by the National Park Service as part of the Cane River Creole National Historical Park.
