About Charity Joyner

Bennett Joiner. I have his wife's name as Charity Sherrod. You have it as Charity Swearingen. Apparently you have better reasons for being right about her last name than I do...

I have 9 children for Bennett and Charity but I have a birth date only for my 2-great grandmother Georgia Ann Joiner. She was born at what is now Camilla, Mitchell County, Georgia, while it was still Indian Lands, on 15 January 1819. She married Jacob Benjamin Sellers in Pulaski County, Georgia, on 11 September 1838.

Peggy, This weekend Jun 2 2001 I found down line descendants of Bennett JOINER in Dooly county. I presume that he is the one of Houston county. He married Charity SWEARINGTON (I presume Dooly but don't know abt 1830.)

His first born is John Andrew. The 2nd James Madison Marries Caroline WEST 29 Sep 1854. His 3rd Samantha Emiline b Aug 28 1834 d Jan 29 1900 is 2nd spouse of Thomas L Smith b 1822 m Dec 19 1854 Dooly county.

His 4th Mary Margaruet b Mar 6,1838 married Jun 28 1855 Joseph Andrew Smith b Jun 14 1830 killed in Civil war in Jun 24 1864.

Mary is buried in the FOREHAND cemetary in Lille(Dooly co)

Mary Margaruet married John H FOREHAND Dec 19,1865 (Dooly co).

Children of Joseph and Mary are:

Emmett Smith b 7 Feb 1858

Thomas Rentz Smith b 30 Sep 1859

Joseph Andrew (Jr??) b 24 Jan 1862

Jack Smith b 14 Oct 1865

Thomas L and Joseph Andrew were brothers.

I obtained/confirmed the above information thru a telephone

conversation with an 88 yr old descendant of Joseph Andrew.

I suppose that we would be some distant cousins as I believe

that my great grandfather John Gardner Smith b (May Jun 1828) is also a brother to Thomas L and Joseph Andrew.

There is a Bennett Joiner, Sr. married to Charity Swearingen who had a son James Madison Joiner. James madison had a son named Allison Holmes Joiner who was my grandfather. James Madison and Allison joiner are buired in the Swearingen cemetery 3 miles from Byronville, Georgia on Hwy 230 toward Americus. See my web site cjoiner.tribalpages.com. I suspect Bennett is also buried in the Swearingen Cemetary in an unmarked grave near the other Joiner graves. This Benntt Joiner had a will recorded in Sumter County. There are other people named Bennett Joiner
