About Charity Wallis

In the Name of God Amen, I John Wallis, senior of the
Parish of Northstoneham, in the county of Southampton, being weak of body but of sound mind
memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner
and form following, that is to say, principally and first of all, I recommend my soul into the
hand of God that gave it, and my body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent
manner and to be laid near the headstone of my late wife in Northstoneham Church
yard. And as to the worldly substance wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I
give and Dispose of the same in manner and form following, First I give and bequeath
to my daughter Mary Colebrook the sum of Ten Pounds of good and lawful money of
Great Britain, to be paid by my executor hereafter named at twelve months after my
Decease, I do also give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Colebrook the white bed and
Furniture therein belonging. I do also give and bequeath to my beloved Daughter
Elizabeth Maulkin the sum of one hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain
to be paid out of any Freehold Estate in Northstone at Twelve months after my Decease
I do also give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Rachel Dalmon the sum of ten pounds
to be paid by my Executor and twelve months after my Decease. I do also give and bequeath
to my Daughter Charity Goddard the sum of one pound and one shilling to be paid by my
executor at twelve months after my decease. I do also give and bequeath unto my daughter Judeth
Button [sic Budden] the sum of five pounds, I do also give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah
Wooldridge the sum Five pounds to be paid by my executor at twelve months after my decease.
I do also give and bequeath to all my grandchildren now born, the sum of five
shillings each to be paid them at twelve months after my decease. I do also give and bequeath to my beloved wife the sum of ten pounds to be paid her by my executor one moth after
My decease. And as much of the household goods as the trustees as I shall appoint shall think
need full for her use and her widowhood in copyhold, so long as she remains my widow.
I do also give to Sarah Wallis relict of my late son John Wallis the
sum of five pounds to be paid to her by my executor at twelve months after my decease. I do also give and devise unto my grandson John Wallis son of my own begotten son John Wallis of Northstoneham all that my freehold Estate in Northstoneham to him and his heir forever he being the right heir whom I subject to the paying of the one hundred pounds to my daughter Elizabeth Maulkin as above mentioned. I also appoint my son in law George Wooldridge and my son in law John Colebrook and my son in law John Puss Button [sic John Purse Budden] trustees to my will and dispose of the remainder of my household goods as they think proper. Lastly as to the rest residue of and money and debts, I bequeath unto my son in law John Wallis of Saint Cross whom I constitute and appoint sole executor of this will... I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty seven.
