About Charles "Charlie" Houston Estes
Charles Estes was a farmer and miller in Hamblen County, TN for most of his life. His corn mill was located at Silver City. His home burned to the ground around 1927. He and his wife, Sarah, lived in their smokehouse for a while during the time they were building a new house on the site of the old one. The smokehouse was a large one-room building. Neighbors helped out after the fire by bringing them food, dishes, quilts, etc.
