Charlie's birthplace (Midian, Kansas) is a now-deserted oil boomtown (see http://www.kshs.org/p/butler-county-history-bibliography/13434 and http://arcana.wikidot.com/midian-kansas). After serving as the best man at his brother Frank's wedding in Leavenworth, Kansas, Charlie drove out to the area where Midian was located and found a few buildings standing.
By the 1920 census, Charlie's family had moved to Oklahoma.
