Charles Lewis Hale was born February 4, 1883, in Flatonia, Fayette County, Texas, to Adolphus Duff Hale and Amanda Jane Fitzgerald. Charles stood 6ft. tall, had blue eyes and brown hair. He was married to his first wife, Iola Caddel in about 1925. They had one son, Charles L. He married his second wife, Ethel Pearl Ives on February 17, 1917, in Bee County, Texas. They had a son, James Morris. Charles was a peace officer in Karnes City, Karnes County, Texas. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER on September 29, 1910 thru February 1, 1911, as a private in Co. B. He was Honorably discharged due to reduction in force. In 1918 Charles was a farmer in Bee County, Texas. In 1920, he was a service car chauffer, living in Beeville. In 1930, he was an oil field truck driver in Bee County. Charles Lewis Hale, Sr. shot and killed Ed Willoghby at the Pettus, Bee County race track. I did not find the reason for the killing. Charles Lewis Hale died July 16, 1941 in Nueces County, Texas.
