Ruffin served in the U.S. Navy during WWI.
Most everyone called him "Ruffin"as aposed to Charles
Ruffin and family lived in Chesterfield County, Virginia, on Belmont Rd. about 150 yards west of the intersection with Cogbill Rd. About 1934 Charles was working for Dupont and was transferred to Waynesboro, Virginia. He was later transferred back to Richmond where he tried his hand at running a store at Granite, which was outside of Richmond on Forst Hill Ave. (which was out in the country at that time). He gave up the store in 1937 and the family moved back to a farm, there being a place out on 360 west of Richmond where they lived for awhile (about a year), later moving to his father Charles Edward Henshaw's farm after he died in 1938. The family lived in Virginia until the summer of 1941, then moving to Cleveland, Ohio where they lived for five years, moving back to Virginia in the summer of 1946
