Charles Morse Hiscock

Charles M. Hiscock was born in Wilton, Maine in 1832. He was likely named after Col. Charles Morse, under whom his father Jesse served in the war of 1812. Both of Charles' parents died before he was more than 12 years old. After this, he was likely raised by older siblings and grandparents who were part of the household.

Charles had a roaming spirit, going to California before settling in Minnesota. He was living in Minnesota in 1856. Mitchell's Stearns County History says Charles came to Brockway Township in the early 1850s but did not locate there permanently until after the Civil War. His sister Charity Waugh was also living in Minnesota in 1856. They appear on the 1857 Minnesota Census, living in Benton County. Charles was a clerk and Charity's husband was a hotel keeper.

Charles Hiscock married Caroline E. McGee, in Stearns County, MN, November, 1866. They had three children: Mary Elizabeth, Samuel, Jennie Lenore. In November/December of one year, Charles went to Alberta, Canada to help with thrashing. He farmed in Brockway Township until he died in 1875. His death was a result of pneumonia after a sickness of ten days. Charles and Caroline were married only 8 years.
