About Charles Hubeny

Charles was born on January 21, 1917 in North Judson, Indiana. He was raised on a farm with his two brothers. After completing college at the Indiana Institute of Technology, he worked at various jobs until entering the Army on March 11, 1940. When World War II broke out, he became a communications instructor and saw action in the Philippines.

He began work at Western Electric on March 18, 1946 in Chicago. He met Arlene Dresden at Western Electric and they were married June 1, 1948. They had ten children before Arlene passed away November 20, 1948. He never remarried.

He was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia by Western Electric in June 1962 and continued working for them until his retirement on February 1, 1980.

After his retirement, he became involved in operating three International House of Pancake restaurants. He sold his interests in December 1985.

He is currently active with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and he is the District Operations Officer. He is responsible for training in boat safety, navigation, communications, and piloting through the Southeast. He is working as a self-employed handyman and has contracts with five International House of Pancakes and three McDonald’s. He also works building boat docks.
