About Charles Levi Stuvengen
Charles L. Stuvengen, age 85, died on January 15, 1982, following a fire in his home in Orfordville. He was born in Orfordville on May 16, 1896, the son of Christopher Gulbrandson and Liv Espeset Stuvengen. He was married to Kirsten Gertrude Schneeberger in 1925. She preceded him in death in 1952. He had been a professional baseball player from 1921 to 1932, under contract with the New York Yankees, playing for St. Paul of the American Association, Chattanooga and Mobile of the Southern Association, Springfield of the International, and Wako and Galveston of the Texas League. He also played football, baseball, and basketball for the Beloit Fairies of Fairbanks-Morse in Beloit. He was a member of the Orfordville Lutheran Church, Rock County Barracks WWI Veterans, and a charter member of Kenneth S. Wells Post No. 209 of the American Legion, having served as First Sergeant with the Aviation branch of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was a electrician at the San Francisco Naval Shipyard, from which he retired when he returned to Orfordville in 1965. He is survived by two sons, Charles G. of Orfordville, and Bruce of Tomah; two grandsons, Karl of Orfordville, and Kurt with the U.S. Navy; and a sister, Gena Fielstad of Orfordville.
