Born in Kankakee? Following from History of Cloud County, KS "There are two excellent hostelries, the long popular "Barons House," which is now owned and managed by C. H. Martin, an experienced caterer, having been engaged in the hotel business for many years. Since Mr. Martin opened the house in June, 1902, he has remodeled and made many improvements, which render comfortable and excellent accommodations to the traveling public. There are several smaller hotels where lower rates are given, but comfortable quarters insured. "The Caldwell" is under course of completion and will be one of the most elegantly equipped hotels in the west." Following from Kansan " OLD RESIDENT DIES Charles H. Martin, who was born at Bourbonnais Grove, Ill., in July 1853, died at his home, The Barons House, in this city on Friday November 15, 1927. He came from Chicago to Concordia in 1876. In 1879 he was married to Miss Henrietta Potter, who was a school teacher of this county, and two children were born to them, who survive their parents. They are: Mrs. Marcelline Ward of this city and Mrs. Ina Price, of Topeka. The family at one time moved to Arkansas, where they lived a short time, returning to Kansas and living in Lyons for nearly twenty years. They came back to Concordia in 1901 when he bought the Barons House and since then has conducted that well known hostelry. Mrs. Martin was killed in an automobile accident near the Kansas-Colorado state line, when returning from a vacation trip to the mountains. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church on Monday morning at nine o'clock and burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery."
