Charles Moore, 1st Marquess of Drogheda

Charles Moore, 1st Marquess of Drogheda was born on 29 June 1730.1 He married Lady Anne Seymour-Conway, daughter of Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Marquess of Hertford and Lady Isabella Fitzroy, on 15 February 1766. He died on 22 December 1822 at age 92.

• He was the son of Edward Moore, 5th Earl of Drogheda and Lady Sarah Ponsonby.3
• He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Canice [Ireland] between 1756 and 1758.
• He succeeded to the title of 8th Baron Moore of Mellefont, co. Louth on 28 October 1758.
• He succeeded to the title of 8th Viscount Moore of Drogheda [ on 28 October 1758.
• He succeeded to the title of 6th Earl of Drogheda [ 1661] on 28 October 1758.
• He held the office of Governor of Meath between 1759 and 1822.
• He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1760.
• He was Colonel of the 18th Light Dragoons (later 18th Hussars) between 1762 and 1821.
• He held the office of Governor of Kinsale between 1764 and 1770.
• He held the office of Constable of Maryborough Castle between 1765 and 1822.
• He held the office of Lord Justice of Ireland between 1766 and 1767
• He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Horsham between 1766 and 1780.
• He gained the rank of Major-General in 1770.
• He held the office of Master-General of the Ordnance [Ireland] between 1770 and 1797.
• He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1777.
• He was invested as a Knight, Order of St. Patrick (K.P.) in 1783.
• He was created 1st Marquess of Drogheda [Ireland] on 5 July 1791.
• He gained the rank of General in 1793.
• He held the office of Joint Postmaster-General between 1797 and 1806.
• He was created 1st Baron Moore of Moore Place, co. Kent [U.K.] on 17 January 1801.
• He gained the rank of Field Marshal in 1821
