Charles Wong Peng Siong who was the oldest and the most senior member of the Malaysian Bar passed away in Johor on 11th January 2001. He went to Clifton College Public School in England for his early education after which he entered the Cambridge University in 1925 and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Arts degree after which he was called to the English Bar in 1929. He returned to Singapore and became the Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court there. He was called to the local Bar in 1930 and subsequently became the partner of Dato Clough Thuraisingam and Mr M.V.Pillai in Johore. During the Japanese Occupation he was in Singapore. In 1957 he returned to Batu Pahat and has been in the Johore state until 1997 when he stopped practice.

Wong, had his early education at Clifton College, a public school in England. In 1925 he went to Cambridge University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1928. In 1929 he was admitted to the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and in the same year was called to the Bar of England and Wales. He returned to Singapore and served as an assistant registrar of the High Court for a short period; after which he went into private practice having been called to the local Bar in 1930. He was also a partner of Dato Clough Thuraisingam and M. V. Pillai

During the Japanese occupation, Wong was detained by them in Singapore. On his release he went to Hong Kong. A few years after the cessation of the war in the Pacific region, Dass said Wong returned to Singapore and in the early fifties started to practise in Batu Pahat.

On 5 August 1980, at the age of seventy-seven, Wong celebrated his 50th year at the Bar at Batu Pahat. It was a unique achievement. Wong died on 11 January 2001 in an old folks home and no one from the legal fraternity knew about it until the cremation was over.
