About Charles Walters
Charles Walters, was an artist, an accomplished fencer and taught fencing at the University of Toronto. His wife became ill while Eva was in her teens and he brought a Mrs. Abbot in to be housekeeper and she stayed on when the Mother died. This was later to become a bone of contention. When Eva finished highschool, she worked but lived at home for a year or two until her marriage.
Eva's husband, Jack had quarreled with her Father, the children’s Grandpa Walters. He would hold forth on how the housekeeper was a mistress even before the Mother had died and what a scandal it was. He would claim Eva had supported the household when she was working and that Charles Walters was still living on the money she had earned in the few years she had worked.
