About Charles Wilkinson
Charles and his wife Sarah (Hughes) emigrated from Manchester, England, with their three young children: Joseph Thomas, Sarah Jane, and Mary. The two girls both died in 1856 at Iowa. Charles, his wife, and son then made the trek to Utah. They drove the wagon containing Franklin D. Richards' library and traveled with the Martin Handcart Company, suffering with them. Sarah died six weeks after arriving in the Valley. Charles and his son survived the trek and eventually settled in southern Utah.
