Charlotte joined the LDS church in England prior to her marriage to William Clarke. She and her husband emigrated to the USA about 6 weeks after their marriage, traveling in the ship "Marshfield" on 8 April 1854. As Charlotte and William Clarke were crossing the plains, William was injured in a buffalo stampede and then passed away at Devils Gate, Wyoming.

Married Horace Dewitt Gibbs, 10 Jan 1855, Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was dissolved on June 29, 1860 per form signed by both and 2 witnesses.

The marriage certificate of Charlotte and William Clarke shows Richard Russell as a witness. Richard married Hannah Underhill, Charlotte's sister. When Charlotte arrived in Salt Lake City, she was sealed to William with Horace Gibbs standing in proxy. She then married Horace for time only and they had one daughter, Hannah Maria Gibbs, mother to Willard J. Jones. Charlotte reportedly separated from Horace Gibbs due to financial reasons, then married Edmund Marchant (no known children).
