About Chauncey B Weir
Source "Descendants of Robert Weir and Elizabeth Green of Old Cambridge - White Creek Washington County, New York" compiled by Jane C. Whitaker
Chauncey and Emeline's mother Miriam died at the young age of 30 years, leaving John A. Weir with a young son and daughter; their other children pre-deceased her. For a few years after Miriam's death, Arnold and Mary (Hay) Young took care of the infant son, Chauncey B. Weir (living with them in Greenwich in 1850). Mary Young was a sister of Emeline (Hay) Weir. Robert Justus. and Emeline brought up their niece, Clementine, and by 1855, Chauncey B. was residing with them also. He was still with them in 1860.
Chauncey was not found in the 1865 census for Greenwich, and I believe he was living with his father, John A., in North Troy, but I have not seen a copy of the Troy census for 1865 to verify this. He moved his family to Utica between March 1871 and June 1873.
I was able to find Chauncey in 1880 from a clue in the estate papers for his uncle, James B. Weir, in the surrogate office at Salem, N.Y., where there was a waiver signed by Chauncey B. Weir showing that he had a legal interest in his uncle's estate. At that time in 1886 he was living in Utica, Oneida County, N.Y.
He was listed in the census of 1880 living in the City of Utica N.Y., and was owner and operator of a butcher shop there. He now had a wife, Margaret, and five children - Clarence, John R., Roscoe, Clementine, and Sarah. The family was living on Kossash Avenue, Utica, in 1880.
He died at his home at 1682 Hager Street, Utica, on 17 Feb. 1926, off hardening of the arteries. His wife Margaret died of myocarditis, and they are buried in New Forest Cemetery, Utica, lot 1018, plots 2 and 5,
