a. 1723 at Cape as soldier from Leipzig, Germany. Became burgher in 1725 and miller at Drakenstein. On 20.7.1727 he married Margaretha PYL (she died at Klipheuwel) in Paarl.

Left the Netherlands (Rammekens) on the ship Borssele on 6 Jun 1723, headed for Ceylon via the Cape. The ship arrived in the Cape 17 Oct 1723 and departed again on 6 Nov 1723 (http://resources.huygens.knaw.nl/das/detailVoyage/93589). The ship records show Rabe becoming a free citizen on 15 Apr 1724, so it is not clear whether he did not depart for Ceylon or whether he returned; my guess is the former, even though the records for the ship show no-one staying behind in Cape Town. I say this because the Borssele arrived at Ceylon on 1 Feb 1724, and no ships returning home from that date forward arrived in the Cape by 15 Apr 1724 (see http://resources.huygens.knaw.nl/das/voyages?start=0).
