"For your information, the ' Nanny ' mentioned in your letter was my grandmother, Wilhelmina Susanna Jacoba Horne ( nee Burger ) 1884 to 1984 - she and her parents lived on Bavaria as bywoners ( Schalk Willem Benjamin Burger 1842 to 1908 x Maria Helena Philippina Burger ( nee Bresler ) Schalk's mother's was Pieter Bresler's sister and according to my granny they moved up to Bavaria just before the Boer war and no doubt to assist Pieter's widow ( Christina Magdalena Bresler ) to run the farm as, her older son, PBB who also, farmed on Bavaria died in 1898

My granny mentioned that she, her mother and Christina helped prepare the dinner for Pres Steyn and the generals, Ds Kestel (February 23, 1902) after they escaped from the battle of Kalkkrans when they overnighted on the farm. She still remembered them all sitting around the large dining room table that night. She lived to be 100 years" Contributed by David Jamieson
