Christopher Columbus Green, M.D. Norris City, IL. was born on Black Warrior River, Al., near where Tuscaloosa now stands, sixty miles from any white inhabitant, May 22, 1821. His father, William B. Green, had settled among the Indians a short time previous with his young wife. She died when Christopher was born. He was nursed by an Indian of the Cherokee tribe for nine months, when his father took him to Blount Co. TN., and left him with his grandfather, where he remained till he was five years old. His father then married and took him to his home in Jackson Co. Al. In 1839 he went to Tenn. and in 1840 came to Gallatin Co. IL. He read medicine about ten months in Shelbyville, TN. He taught school and farmed for seventeen years, and practiced occasionally. He moved to White Co. in 1847; began regular practice in 1858. In March 1879, he came to Norris City, where he built up a large practice.

I have a distinct memory of my father from the time I was three years old. His personality always impressed me. During my boyhood he was my highest ideal of manhood. That ideal has never changed. I still find myself measuring men by comparison with him and the acts of myself and others by comparison with what he would have done under like circumstances. The present generation would style his life a failure, because he did not reach out after wealth, and left no very large estate: but, to me, it is a grand heritage. It was a life of helpfulness, of self-sacrifice for others, the most beautiful life that he could have lived. "IF THERE BE ANOTHER WORLD, HE LIVES IN BLISS; IF NOT, HE MADE THE BEST OF THIS.

The remains of Dr. C.C. Green, of Norris City, who died at his home in that place on Friday last, of apoplexy, were brought to the family graveyard at the old home farm now owned by his son, W. N. Green, on last Saturday for interment, followed by a vast concourse of friends and relatives. A short funeral service was held and there was scarcely a dry cheek in that vast audience as Rev. McQuay briefly but touchingly referred to the Doctor's past life. Deceased was one of the few who do not live for self alone, and was always ready to shake the hand of a friend and give him a word of encouragement, always jovial and sociable, ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, thus making the world all the better for his having lived in it, he had ever advocated the cause of the poor man, hence was virtually without enemies. The writer extends his heart felt sympathy to the bereaved family. Muskrat.

This picture of CC Green was found in 2011 by the Dr. Milton Silas Greene line. Milton was the son of CC Green. It is thought to be a picture that belonged to Milton's daughter Callie. When Callie died it transferred to her son Carl. When Carl's wife passed away in September 2011, at the age of 103, the picture was found. It simply says 'My grandfather Greene' Thanks to Carolyn, Michael and Kay for sharing this with the Green(e) family.
