Müller begynte å studere teologi i Christiania i 1698 og oppnådde i 1705 tittelen "Cand.Theol. med laud." I 1712 fungerte han som feltprest i Skaune og året etter i 1713 ble han innsatt som sogneprest i Olsker-Allinge på Bornholm. I 1723 ble han kalt til sogneprest i Egersund kirke i Norge og fungerte der til sin død i 1749. Han blir regnet som den første som begynte å konfirmere i Egersund i 1736
