Algoma Record Herald July 2, 1959 Death Claims C.J. Baudhuin Started Motor Freight and Terminal Service Here in 1938 Clarence J. (Tom) Baudhuin, 53, who started the first motor transportation freight and terminal business in Algoma 21 years ago died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's hospital Rochester, Minn. In ill health about a year, Mr. Baudhuin was taken to Rochester Sunday. His wife and daughter, Mrs. Keith Haasch, left Wednesday morning to be at his bedside but his death arrived before their arrival. Mr. Baudhuin, originally a cheesemaker, established his own trucking firm, the Baudhuin Transfer company in Algoma in 1938, and did contract hauling, handled freight pick-ups and deliveries, and also took care of local pick-ups and deliveries for Olson Transportation company. During his Algoma residence Mr. Baudhuin became active in boy scout activities and in 1956 was the recipient of the Trail Blazer award. He served as a member of Troop 127 committee for a number of years, was chairman of the Kewaunee county district transportation committee and at the time of his death was chairman of the Explorer post committee. During many of the paper drives conducted by Troops 127 and 19, trucks from Baudhuin Transfer were made available. For several years Mr. Baudhuin was a member of the Algoma Fire department, and his church affiliations included the Holy Name society, Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus. Brussels Native Born Sept. 16, 1905, at Brussels, Mr. Baudhuin attended the Brussels graded school and then spent several years on the home farm. In 1927 he took a course in cheesemaking at the University of Wisconsin and was employed as a cheesemaker at Sunny Point and Pound several years before entering the motor transportation freight and terminal business. He married the former Emily Gigot at St. Francis church, Brussels, June 28, 1928, and she survives with one daughter, Mrs. Keith (Carol) Haasch, Algoma; three sons, Clarence, Jr., Racine, and James and Thomas, at home; one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Alex Bretl, Maplewood, and Mrs. Joe Bretl, Brussels, and four brothers, Ralph Baudhuin, Rockford, Ill.; John, Milwaukee; George, Sturgeon Bay, and Francis, also of Rockford. His parents, one sister and a brother preceded him in death. Services Saturday Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, 9:30 at Haucke Funeral home and 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Very Rev. F.C. Heimann will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. According to tentative plans, the body will lie in state at the Haucke Funeral home after 7 o'clock Friday night. The rosary will be prayed at 8 that evening.
