They were married by Alfred Carry, Minister of the Gospel, Witnesses to marriage were Thos. Cruthers (his brother) and C.M. Carry of Marlett (probably the minister's wife).

In the 1880 Census Clarrisa's grandmother Martha Fralick Irwin, aged 77, was living with the family.

Obituary:

Mrs. John Crothers, died at her home on South Main Street, Monday morning, July 16 at 11:30.

In January she submitted to an operation for cancerous growth and for a couple of months enjoyed fairly good health. However the disease made its appearance again and another operation was decided necessary but to no avail, she gradually kept growing weaker until death relieved her of her suffering.

Besides her aged partner she is survived by four sons and two daughers; George and John H. of Marlette, Arthur of Hasting, Mrs. Douglas Walker of Marlette and Mrs. Clarence Price of Pontiac and Erwin Crothers of Pontiac. She is also survived by two sisters; Mrs. Jacob Hill of Missouri and Mrs. M. Capes of Detroit and two brothers; Caleb Fairbanks of Fresno, Calif and Ambrose Fairbanks of Marlette.

Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Church of which she had been a member for more than 50 years, Wednesday afternoon and interment was made in the Marlette Cemetery. Miss Clarissa Fairbanks was born Sept. 2, 1854 and was married to Mr. Crothers on April 30, 1873.

During her life she lived in this community revered by her family and respected by all that knew her.

Mr. and Mrs. Crothers had intended to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary the 30th of last April, but on account of Mrs. Crothers ill health the day was spent quietly
