Claron Markham

Two Utahns, including Sidney Charles Kramer, seaman first class, better known as "Sid Kramer." all around athlete and former deputy sheriff of Salt Lake County, today had been commended by Secretary of the Navy by Secretary of the Navy Knox for outstanding conduct during battle.

Claron Dee Markham, 22, seaman first class of Provo, was also commended for being among the crew members who remained at their battle stations for eight days after their vessel was porpedoed by an enemy submarine.

Kramer, is 28 years of age. His wife, Mrs. Marjorie Blanche Kramer, lives at 3209 South 1375 Street in Salt Lake.

Markham is the 22-year-old son of Mrs. Edith Markham Newton of 442 North Fifth Eats Street in Provo.

Veteran Rolls Perfect Game

Claron Markham, a veteran Salt Lake City bowler, had his big moment rolling in the Fairmont 940 League this week.

Markham started the night hi perfect fashion scoring a 300 game. He followed with a 257 and finished with a 217 for a whopping 774 series.

An employe of Auerbach's. Markham delivered the ball perfectly in fhe opening game as he became one of the few who roll a sanctioned 300 game. There were other big scores turned in at the various bowling centers around the state. . .

Kegler Misses 300

On Final Effort A bowler's dream nearly came true for Claron Markham Sunday afternoon. He came within three pins of rolling a perfect game.

Markham, a part-time pinsetterat the K-B Lanes watched his 32th ball fashion a 7-9-10 split for a 297 total—three pins away from that elusive 300.

Sol Betnun, authority for the information and a red-hot bowling enthusiast himself, says the feat is all the more remarkable since Markham can't spin the scales to 125 pounds.
