"NORTHWOOD — Clinton "Happy" Perkins, 83, of Northwood, died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood. Clinton "Happy" Perkins was born Sept. 19, 1914, to Clifford and Ida Johnson Perkins in rural Worth County. He attended the Otranto Consolidated School in Otranto. He married Wilma Ruth Thompson on Aug. 21, 1937, at the First Lutheran Parsonage in St. Ansgar. They lived on several farms in Worth and Mitchell counties, until purchasing a farm in 1971, seven miles east of Northwood. Upon retirement in 1986, they moved to a home in Northwood. Happy was a lifetime member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school, ushered, served many years as trustee and deacon, held all offices on the church board, was a member of the building committee, a delegate to Synod and Tri Ennial Conventions. He served for 18 years on the Lutheran Home Retirement Board, the last three years as vice-chairman. Happy helped organize the Deer Creek cheese factory and served as treasurer for many years. He was a Farm Bureau township director in Mitchell and Worth counties, and state voting delegate for Worth County Farm Bureau. He was instrumental in organizing the Worth County Soybean Association and Worth County Dairy Association and served as chairman for both organizations. He was also a member of the Worth County Republican Central Committee for several years. Happy was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Hazel Glassel and Doris Lee. Happy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma, of Northwood; five daughters, Carol Tinkey and her husband, Lloyd, of Yankton, S.D., Doreen Dorenkamp and her husband, Duane, of rural Sheffield, Eileen Brunsvold of Clear Lake, Nancy Vaught and her husband, Richard, of Greer, S.C., and Barbara Eppens and her husband, Dale, of Clear Lake; two brothers, Lloyd (Jack) Perkins and his wife, Erma, of Northwood, Warren (Ole) Perkins and his wife, Dorothy, of Northwood; one sister, Mildred James and her husband, Joe, of Austin, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Ann DeKoter and her husband, Randy, Judy Dolejsi and her husband, Dan, Mark Tinkey, JoEllen Reynolds and her husband, Timothy, Ronni Rettig and her husband, Shawn, Erik Dorenkamp and his wife, Kim, Christine and Kim Gusa, Tim Dorenkamp and his fiancee, Janine Aulner, Brian and Brenda Eppens, and Nathan Dorenkamp; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Erica and Kevin Dolejsi, Matthew, Jana and Michelle DeKoter, Kyle and Cole Reynolds, and Theron and Dakota Rettig.
