About Colonel George Clark, Jr. (USA)
He was a major in the 2nd Brigade, of the 1st Division, of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia before the Civil War. Commissioned colonel of the 11th Massachusetts Infantry, on June 13, 1861. Known locally as the "Boston Volunteers," the 11th Mass. Regt. was raised largely through the influence of George Clark, Jr., an old militia officer, who became its first colonel. Clark led his regiment into the 1st battle of Bull Run, on July 21, 1861, where they suffered 88 men killed and wounded. Colonel Clark was discharged for disability on October 11, 1861. After the war he was a member of G.A.R. Post #69, in Dorchester, Mass.
