Delegate in Boston Adoption of The Constitution

  • Nov 1776 Fold 3 War Service Records 1st Regiment (1776) Massachusetts Militia in Colonel in the Brigade in the Service of the Hon. S. H. Parsons, Esq, Brigadier General. Col Wm McIntosh in the List of Men Raised in the county of Suffolk of the State of Massachusetts Bay for the purpose of filling up and completing the Fifteen Battalions of Continental Troops Directed to be Raised for the Term of Nine Months from the Time of their arrival at Fish Kill. Agreeable to a Resolve of Gen Court Past 20th April 1778.

Revolutionary War: Colonel in the Continental Army, 1st Suffolk Regiment of the State of Massachusetts Militia.

He served in the Revolutionary War as Colonel of the 1st Suffolk County regiment of State Militia and was called by General Washington "a good officer and a brave man." Col. William Mcintosh, of Needham, Massachusetts, was a man of considerable local note, having commanded a comjpany in the Continental Army, and subsequently served as colonel of militia. He was one of the delegates in the convention in Boston, in 1788, on the adoption of the Constitution of the United States.

He served as selectman of Needham for twelve years and a representative in the General Court. In 1779 he was a member of the convention that formed the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. On 2nd February 1776 the Massachusetts Provincial Congress established: the 1st Suffolk County Militia Regiment under Col. William McIntosh from the companies at Dedham, Needham and Roxbury, The Suffolk Militia was mustered on 4th March 1776 and saw three days service in the taking of the Dorchester Heights that overlooked Boston Harbor, and precipitated the end of the siege of Boston with the withdrawal of British troops from that city on 17th March.
