About Conrad Hoffsommer

Conrad Hoffsommer, Native German, Dies Hoping Kaiser Loses

Funeral services for Conrad Hoffsommer, who died yesterday after a year of failing health, at his home, 322 South Seventeenth street, will be held at the residence at 6.45 o'clock tomorrow evening. Mr. Hoffsommer, though born in Germany, came to this country when he was six years old and his sympathies were intensely anti-German in connection with the present war. Almost his last words before death were:
"I hope I shall live to see the day when the Kaiser is defeated."
Mr. Hoffsommer was in his 68th year, and though he had retired from active business on account of his poor health, formerly conducted a grocery store on Derry street. He is survived by his widow, three children, Alfred Franklin Hoffsommer, a financial organizer, of this city; Miss Mabel Olive Hoffsommer, a Harrisburg school teacher, and Dr. Walter Edward Hoffsommer, a Presbyterian missionary, now in Tokio, Japan. Seven grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Hoffsommer was a member of the Stevens Memorial Methodist Church. The burial will take place Monday in Phoenixville. The Rev. Dr. George Edward Reed will conduct the services at the home tomorrow evening.
