About Cornelia Ann Villines
- Note:
"Cornelia, a widow during WWII, had four sons and a grandson in the service. Woodrow in the Army; Willard in the Marines, was in the Iwo Jima invasion; Merle in the Coast Guard; Joe in the Navy on the USS Mahan when Pearl Harbor was bombed; grandson, J.W. Mount in the Navy Air Force. All returned unharmed.
Cornelia was at the Victory Market located on the west side of the Harrison Square and heard on the radio that Joe's ship had landed at San Diego. She set her groceries down in the store, and caught the bus for San Diego. When she arrived, she was window shopping and wondering what to do next. Joe, at the same time, was walking up the same street. Seeing a little lady he thought, 'It can't be but that sure looks like my mother!" He bumped her slightly on the shoulder, said "Excuse me ma'am." When each faced the other, there was indeed a happy reunion!"
Cornelia was a homeaker and a member of the War Mother's Club of WWII.
Cornelia passed away in 1954 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Harrison with her husband.
