Extract from CXpress issue 308 - The Garden Route Newspaper:
"CORNELIS Botha, the first owner of land in Plett's Piesang River Valley, was a sixth generation descendant of the first member of the Botha family, who landed in South Africa in 1685. In 1768, he married Cornelia Carolina du Preez, who died a short time after the birth of their youngest son, Cornelis Johannes (killed at Die Poort in 1802). He married Margaretha van der Wat in 1781. Jan van Rooyen (1771) married Elizabeth van der Wat in 1791. He was now the brother-in-law of Cornelis Botha senior. In 1810, after Cornelis Botha's death, he bought part of the Botha lands in the Piesang Valley from Botha's estate. "
