Note: no burial record has been found for Cornelius. While it stands to reason that he would be buried in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Boxford where his first wife and the mother of all of his children has a grave marker, this may not be so. After he was widowed, he moved to Ipswich, and his second wife was his care giver and the sole executrix of his estate. She may have had him buried in Ipswich where they lived.

Cornelius was the son of Cornelius Brown and Sarah Lamson of Lynn and Reading, Mass. He was married c. 1689 to Susanna (STORY) Clark, b. Ipswich 14 March 1664, d. Boxford, Mass. 9 Jan 1734, the daughter of William Story and Sarah Foster, and the widow of John Clark, who was b. Lynn 2 Nov 1658, d. there 18 Dec 1685. Following Susanna's death, Cornelius m. Ipswich (int 8 April 1734, marriage 2 ___ 1734) the widow Mary (_______) Crocker/Crook who died in 1757.

Cornelius's will, dated 28 June 1743 was proven the following week on 4 July 1743. In it he names all six of his known children, and names his wife, Mary, as sole executrix. The will of his second wife Mary, dated 20 Dec 1749, proved 25 July 1757, gives her dwelling house to Benjamin Dutch of Ipswich, and after his death it was to go to her son John Crook, if living. If he was no longer living, then the house was to go to her grandson-in-law, Daniel Brown of Concord.

Children of Cornelius and Susanna, first born in Lynn, the remainder born in Reading, Mass.:

  • Susanna, b. 6 March 1689/90, d. Boxford 20 July 1785, aged 95, m. Lynn, Mass (int 3 May 1712) Samuel COLE, b. Lynn 27 Dec 1687, d. Boxford 20 Jan 1765, the son of John Cole and Sarah Alesbee, and the much younger half-brother of John Cole, Jr. who married Mary Eaton, and were the parents of Susanna's youngest sister's husband, Jonathan Cole.
  • Jemimah, b. 17 Dec 1691, d. Groton, Mass. 1729 (per secondary sources), m. Groton 1 June 1721 Daniel BOYNTON, b. Rowley, MA 26 May 1692 (but his birth is also recorded in Georgetown, Mass.), d. Pepperell, Mass. 22 Feb 1755, aged 63, the son of Samuel Boynton and Hannah Switcher. Some accounts give Jemima a twin brother, Jeremiah, but the likely scenario is that she is actually the Jeremiah Brown whose birth appears in the Reading vital records. When the name Jemima is spelled with an h at the end, it is very easy to understand how the name, in any handwriting, could look like Jeremiah. The spelling of her name in her Groton marriage record is Jemimiah. During her short life, Jemimah had four children, born 1722 to 1729, and it appears that her death was associated with the birth of her last child. The family likely lived in the part of Groton that later became Pepperell.
  • Moses, b. 19 April 1694, living in 1743, m. (int in Lynn, Mass. 15 April 1719) Martha EMMONS, b. c. 1698, d. CT 14 June 1738. Note: the names Moses and Aaron are often used for twins, and the birthdate for both of them are the same, but the Reading vital records clearly indicate that they were born in different years. If Martha Emmons was the daughter of Benjamin Emmons and Elizabeth Bradford, then she was born in Boston, Mass. on 3 March 1697. It appears that Moses and Martha moved to Connecticut shortly after their marriage, as they have no children with births recorded in Lynn. Moses was called of Tolland, CT in his father's 1743 will, and was given land in Tolland and all of his father's wearing apparel. No records have been found for Moses and Martha, other than Martha's death, and the deaths of three of their children found in the Barbour Collection of Connecticut vital records, as follows: Moses Brown, son of Moses and Martha, d. 6 July 1727; Peter Brown d. 4 April 1737; and Clark Brown d. 8 April 1738.
  • Aaron, b. 19 April 1696, d. Boxford c. 1725, m. Bradford, Mass. 30 Dec 1718 Hannah/Susanna HOVEY, b. Topsfield, Mass. 25 July 1699, d. Boxford 10 June 1782, the daughter of Luke Hovey and Susanna Pillsbury. The cover of a probate document (apparently an administration paper) for Aaron is dated 15 Feb 1725, but unfortunately this doesn't tell us if the true date is 1724/5 or 1725/6. If we take it at face value, then the latter would be the correct date. Following Aaron's death, his widow m. in Boxford 25 Nov 1731 William Lakeman, b. Ipswich 17 May 1706, d. Boxford 4 March 1780, in his 74th year, the son of William Lakeman and Eliza Palmer. Aaron's wife is called Hannah in some records and Susanna in others. Her birth record in Topsfield names her Hannah, her marriage record in Bradford names her Hannah, and the baptismal record of her oldest child, Aaron, in Bradford names her Hannah. The birth records of her three children in Boxford name her Susanna, and her marriage record to her second husband in Boxford names her Susanna. Her death record only records her name as Mrs. Lakeman, old. The birth and baptismal records of her oldest child indicate that she is just one person, so based on the records, she needs to be given two names. Aaron had three children, born 1720 to 1723/4 with Hannah/Susanna before his untimely death. Susanna then had four more children, born 1732 to 1742, with her second husband.
  • Caleb, b. Reading 23 Oct 1698, d. Harvard, Mass. 23 Nov 1758, m. (int Rowley, MA 18 Oct 1722) Elizabeth JEWETT, b. Rowley 3 March 1700/1, the daughter of Maximilian Jewett and Sarah Hardy. Caleb and Elizabeth had elven known children, the first nine born in Boxford 1724 to 1739, the tenth baptized in Bradford (but recorded in Boxford) in 1741, and the eleventh baptized in Harvard in 1745. Caleb is buried in the Harvard, Mass. Cemetery with a surviving grave marker, but the death date and burial location for Elizabeth have not been discovered.
  • Judith (Judah), b. Reading 10 Nov 1700, m. Jonathan COLE. She is buried in Harvard, Mass.; he in Westmoreland, NH.
