About Corp Christoph Adam Sauer
Christoph came with his parents to America in 1854, settling in New York. One year later they relocated to Long Grove, Illinois.
Christoph was part owner of the "Sauer Cheap Cash Store," now called the Farmside Store in Long Grove, Illinois. The store was built in 1869.
Chris fought for the Union in the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private on August 14, 1862. On August 27, 1862, he enlisted in Company I, 88th Infantry Regiment Illinois. In the battle for Chattanooga, Tennessee, on November 29, 1863, Chris was wounded and lost a leg. He was discharged on January 10, 1865, and promoted to Full Corporal.
