About Corp. John Harmon

John Harmon served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in Company A, 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment. He entered service on 22 Aug 1861 and mustered in on 18 Sep 1861 in Cairo, Illinois as a Private. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal. He died on 26 Sep 1864 in a field hospital in Rome, Georgia. The cause of his death was gangrene from a fracture to his right wrist, the result of a gunshot wound received in the Battle of Atlanta on 22 July 1864.
