Biography

Micah Sampson Jr 1740 - 1821 was the son of Micah Sampson Sr 1717 - 1740 of Kingston, Plymouth, Massachusetts and Deborah Gardner 1719 - 1804 of Marshfield, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Deborah and Micah Sr were married on 07 February 1739/1740 in Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Deborah and Micah had one child: Micah Sampson Jr born on 20 December 1740 in Kingston, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Micah Sampson Sr died on 11 October 1740 in Kingston, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Micah Sampson Sr's widow Deborah married second to Jacob Gould (Goold) 1720 – 1795 on 4 Oct 1744 in Kingston, Plymouth, Massachusetts. They had five children.

Micah Sampson Jr married Abigail Prince Gookin on 23 December 1762 in Falmouth, Cumberland, Maine. Abigail and Micah had nine children. They were: Mary born 1766, James Gardiner Sampson was born before 17 July 1768; Deborah Sampson was born before 14 April 1771; Lucy Sampson was born before 17 October 1773; Abigail Sampson was born before 28 July 1776; Betty Sampson was born before 03 January 1779; Joshua Sampson was born before 12 August 1781; Dorothy Sampson was born before 22 August 1784; and John Sampson was born in 1788. All the children were born in Portland, Cumberland, Maine except Mary.

Micah Sampson Jr served in the Revolutionary War as a corporal under Captain William Crooker's company, stationed in Falmouth (now Portland), Maine, for seacoast defense, from July 17th to Dec. 31, 1775; also through the months of March, April, May, September, October, and November, 1776; also January, February and March, 1777, and in the expedition against Penobscot, July, August and September, 1779.

Micah died Sep 21 1821 in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine.
