(VII) George Barlow Smith, son of Jonathan and Cynthia (White) Smith, was born August 9, 1831, died November 6, 1908. He was born in Hadley, Massachusetts, on the ancestral farm that had been in the family for generations. This branch of the family were the pioneer settlers of the town. He was a farmer and tobacco grower, and was the first in Hadley to raise onions. He was also the first man in the town to use farm machinery. He served on the School Board for twenty-two years, and was superintendent of the Sunday school of the Congregational Church for twenty-seven years.
He married Ophelia Munn, born in Hoosic, New York, in 1832, and died in 1914.
