About Cpl. Cecil George Guinness

Cecil George Guinness worked as a warehouseman for Guinness Brothers at No. 1 The Strand in Tauranga. He lost his life during World War I, when he was killed in action on 19 October 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele, a futile and senseless slaughter in a never-ending quagmire of mud, slime, blood, and rotted bodies, dreamed up by incompetent military leaders with reckless disregard for the lives of the men under their command. There are no words to adequately describe the hell that was Passchendaele. Source: Cecil George Guinness (1894-1917) by Debbie McCauley.
