About Crittenden Hull Adams
Born in New York City, New York
Adams-Claflin: Miss Agnes S Claflin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Claflin, to Mr. Crittenden Hull Adams; 7 East 9th St., Manhattan, June 28, 1916 (Brooklyn Blue Book, Brooklyn Life Publishing Company, January 1917, Marriages During the Year, November 1, 1915, to October 31, 1916, inclusive, p. xv)
Crittenden H Adams ‘12 It is with profound sorrow that we record the death of our classmate, Crittenden Hull Adams, on October 5, 1943, at Lake Placid, N.Y., after a brief illness, at the age of 53. Crit entered Princeton with us in the fall of 1908 from the Hill School and after his graduation in 1912 went through the Harvard Law School class of 1915. As a member of Squadron A of New York City, he saw duty on the Mexican border and, in World War I, was a 1st lieutenant in the field artillery. Since 1919 he was associated with the law firm of Breed, Abbott & Morgan in New York and he lived, up to the time of his death, at Morristown, N.J. with his wife, Agnes Claflin Adams, and their family. In college, as in after-life, Crit gave quiet and unassuming devotion to those things which make for a well-rounded life and a good citizen. While he was of a shy and somewhat retiring nature, his career was by no means lacking in distinction. Only a few of his friends knew that in his undergraduate days he failed to win his varsity letter in the broad-jump by but a half-inch, and a Phi Beta Kappa key by only one place. In his professional and community life he was a faithful and able worker. Crit’s loss will be deeply felt by his classmates at their future gatherings and by his other warm friends. To his widow and two daughters, who survive him, along with his mother and brothers, the members of the class of ’12 wish to extend their heartfelt sympathy and say “They do not die who live in the hearts of those they leave behind.” For the Class of 1912 Dean Mathey Richard A Medina, President Robert F Irwin Jr., Vice-president Benjamin M Fowler, Jr, Treasurer R Meade Smith Jr, Secretary (Princeton Alumni Weekly, Volume 44, 19 November 1943, p19)
