He was born in Clay County, a son of the late David Andrew and Sarah Elizabeth McCune Sampson. He was a former employee of the O. Ames Co., Parkersburg, and was a timberman. He was a member of the Frozen Chapel Baptist Church, Shock.
He is survived by three daughters, Anna Lucille Patterson of Strange Creek, Robin L. Wease of Spencer and Lisa Ann Cook of Parkersburg; one son, Charles C. Sampson of Stumptown; one stepdaughter, Jane Rucker of Spencer; two stepsons, Jimmy Nicholas of Spencer and Timmy Nicholas of Stumptown; two brothers, Homer Sampson of Shock and David Sampson of Parkersburg; 26 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.
Services were Saturday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Elder Darrell Hashman officiating. Burial was in Cottrell Cemetery, Shock.
