About Cynthia MacArthur
Published in Chicago Sun-Times on Mar. 14, 2003:
Cynthia Wirtz MacArthur, 75, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at her winter home in Jupiter, Florida. She spent her summers in Lake Forest, IL, to be close to her daughter, Virginia (Baker) Jenner, and their children, Tori, Alexa and Kelcy (David) Vallas; as well as her son, Bruce W. MacArthur, and his children, Hayes and Scott. Cynthia Wirtz MacArthur was the eldest child of the late Arthur M. Wirtz, who was a prominent realtor, banker, and sports promoter whom owned and operated the Chicago Stadium and the Chicago Blackhawk Hockey Team. Mrs. MacArthur devoted much of her life to Alcoholics Anonymous and served on the board of Little Hill Alina Lodge in Blairstown, New Jersey. As one associate said, "She was known for her humor, integrity and loyalty, and always being the one who would rather give than receive." Mrs. MacArthur was also active in local charities and was a lifelong member of the Junior League Society. Besides her children and grandchildren, she is also survived by her loving brother, William W. Wirtz and her dear sister, Elizabeth V. Wirtz. She was also the sister of the late Arthur Michael Wirtz. Burial services are private and her family will hold a memorial service for her in the spring. Memorial donations can be made to Little Hill Foundation, Inc. c/o Little Hill Alina Lodge, Box G, Blairstown, NJ 07825.
