COMMUNITY NEWS, STYX RIVER by Kathryn Weekley
Our sincere sympathy to the family of Daisy Hammock, who died March 7 in Foley after a long illness. She was 67 years old. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Mack Funeral Home with burial in Hinote Cemetery in Styx River. I'm sorry to say that this all went on during torrential rains and strong winds. Daisy never married, a sister Tommie White of Loxley and nieces and nephews survive her. She was the daughter of the late Randolph and Ida Hammock, formerly of Styx River. They moved to a house south of Foley when Daisy was just a little girl and while there a tornado hit the house, destroying it and wounding Daisy and all those with her. But they all survived. Daisy's mother, Ida Hinote, was born and raised here in Styx River at the old stage stop down at the river at the Koehler Place near the Rocks, the daughter of Dock and Nancy Hinote, who were among the first settlers in this community. Later she married Randolph Hammock and finally moved to Foley. Members of the family appreciate all of you who came to the funeral home and the cemetery despite the terrible weather.
