c. 1560: Remission by Neil Montgomery of Lainshaw, son and heir of Sir Neil Montgomery of Lainshaw, Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, Pronevoy and heir of the late Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, who was father to the said James, Sir Neil, Gilbert, Earl of Cassillis, nearest branch surviving, and the late John, Lord Kennedy, brother of the late ____ Kennedy, Lord Montgomery, the said Sir Neil, his 2 brothers on his father's side, Archibald, Earl of Argyle, standing for 2 of the branches on Dame Helen Campbell, his mother's side, successors of the Houses of Argyll, in the stewartry of Lorne, to Robert Boyd, Charles Mowat of Knockinliver, John Brisbane of Bishopton, David Fairlie younger of that ilk, Robert Boyd of Clerkland, Archibald Boyd, now warditor of Ryceholme and William Blair in Henrycroft, for 'kin and freens' and all actions criminal and civil that they had against them, including the slaughter of the late Sir Neil.
