Biography

Written as recorded:

VI. Daniel 2 Chandler, son of Dainiel1 Chandler, was born at Hanover, New Hampshire, January 21, 1784. He married January 8, 1808, Hannah Sloan, born December 14, 1787; died February 5, 1850, daughter of Joseph and Temperance (Waterman) Sloan. She is buried at Berlin, Vermont.
Daniel Chandler settled on a farm in West Berlin. He is described as a man of about one hundred and fifty pounds, of light complexion, and light eyes. When his parents removed from Pomfret to Hanover, he was an infant, and was carried by his mother, who rode horseback through the wilderness. He bought the farm, known as the Chandler homestead, at West Berlin in 1806, and built a log cabin. During the first season, he lived in the cabin, and cleared a few acres of land. In the fall he returned to his father's house and married. They came to Berlin in the following spring, and he spent the remainder of his life there.
