Came to Indiana from Pennsylvania at 16 years old. He worked at the mill at Sligo. Later he bought a farm at 13th and Rose Road in West Township by Thomas Lake. After 24 years at that location they moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles south west of Argos, which was later owned by Charles Myers.
The story goes that while the Battle of Gettysburg was being fought, a party from Lititz went to see. Daniel (about 13) went along. They got close enough to see the smoke from the big guns. (Son Ira told Nephew Doyle Fishburn)
