222. DANIEL STARR, son of Joseph 197, Comfort 165, Thomas 7, Dr. Comfort 1, b. Jan. 18, 1700-1, in Middletown; a weaver, and owned a large tract of land in South Farms, where he built a house, and dug the well now in use. Over the front door of the house was a piece of carved work in which were D. E. S., the initials of himself and wife. The house and its contents were accidentally destroyed by fire, April 6, 1797, and on its site his grandson, Daniel, built the house now standing and occupied by his descendants. Himself and wife were members of the First Cong, church, by what was called the half-way covenant. He d. Aug. 21, 1752; buried in the Farm Hill Cem.
He m. Feb. 26, 1723-4, ESTHER, dau. of Rev. John and Susannah SOUTHMAYD, of Waterbury, Ct. She was one of the excellent of the earth, and the fragrance of her blessed memory is the traditional inheritance of the present generation ; d. Feb. 5, 1777, ae. 77.
