Daniel Webster Underwood, II (?) and Sarah Jane Rendleman were married in May, 1895, per daughter Mary (Underwood) Howenstein. Daniel was age 32 and Sarah was age 30; this was her first marriage, which was a bit unusual at the time, and she may have been considered a spinster. To this union 7 children were born, with 13 years between the youngest and the oldest.
Children:
Daniel Webster Underwood worked for the Missouri and Ohio Railroad and, in 1907, lost half of one of his hands and three fingers while trying to couple cars together. The family lived in Murpysboro, Jackson Co., IL at the time, but after the accident moved the family 5 miles out of town to live on a farm. With the children being between 6 months and 13 years old at the time, and with Daniel having trouble doing all the farm chores due to his hand injury, the family stayed on the farm only 2 - 3 years. Then they moved back to town and Daniel was rehired to work for the Missouri & Ohio RR. He was sent to work in East Saint Louis in St. Clair Co., IL so the family moved there and finished raising their children in that location.
This information is from a family history recorded in book form by one of their daughters, Mary (Underwood) Howenstein, (great-great granddaugher of William "Wedgbar" Underwood). Her book, Patriots - Their Footsteps Erased was written in memory of Private William Underwood (1759 - 1852).
